The Rev. Daniel Hess

Hello, I’m Pastor Dan and I serve as one of the Interim Pastors here at Trinity Ecumenical Parish.

I grew up outside of Richmond, Virginia, in a Lutheran church. From a young age, I have always loved learning, discussing faith, and spending time out in creation. The latter part of that love led me to attend Bridgewater College where I studied Environmental Science. During my time in college, I began discerning a call to ordained ministry through working and serving as an outtrip adventure guide at a Lutheran camp. After attending and earning a Master of Divinity from United Lutheran Seminary, I served as pastor at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Marion, VA, and then as an interim pastor at Bethel Lutheran Church in Edinburg, VA. In 2022, I came to Trinity Ecumenical Parish to serve alongside my wife Sarah as an interim pastor. In this role, we intentionally walk alongside the good people of Trinity in discerning where and how God is calling Trinity to serve the Smith Mountain Lake community.

When I’m not at Trinity, I like to spend time with my family and lots of time outside or in the kitchen. I enjoy gardening and find joy in watching the birds. If you'd like to go birding around the lake sometime, let me know!
